An Interview with Teame and Stan

Long Way from Adi Ghehad

Stan Hazel, the author of Long Way from Adi Ghehad was interviewed for BBC Radio Bristol alongside the book’s subject, Dr Teame Mebrahtu. The DJ, Steve Yabsley described Teame’s life as “a remarkable story”: a journey from living in a tiny village in Eritrea to becoming a leading academic in the UK, having been welcomed into this country after seeking political asylum.

The author suggests that this book has a wide potential audience: educationists, other Eritreans, people in community relations and immigration fields will all find something captivating in Teame’s story. Not only this but as Teame’s story is a tale of a great transition in the face of adversity, it is a timely reminder of a positive side of what has become a contentious and potentially divisive issue for any potential reader.

Listen to an extract from the interview here.

“A valuable resource for those seeking to understand the issues of immigration, the conflicting forces facing asylum seekers, and the challenges for countries where they gain sanctuary. Dr Mebrahtu’s reflections on the issues of immigration both for the immigrants and the host community, based on his own experience and that of the many other refugees he helped, are thought provoking.”  Henleaze & Westbury Voice
